Exhibition
(only available in English language)
by Keiichiro Shibuya and Takashi Ikegami
The exhibition of the filmachine installation in Berlin in February 2008 was the first project of Les Jardins des Pilotes and the international premiere of this artwork, which had previously been shown only in Japan. The exhibition was presented in cooperation with transmediale festival.
filmachine places the visitor inside a vortex of sound and light that transcends the traditional perspective of the cinematic experience. Three circles of loudspeakers are suspended from the ceiling above an abstract landscape. On entering the space, the visitor starts the composition with a button at the center of the piece, triggering an immersive audio-visual experience in a 3-dimensional soundscape, enhanced by a specially designed LED lighting system. For the exhibition in Berlin, Keiichiro Shibuya created a new composition. It is based on research of complex systems and makes use of cellular automata and logistic maps for sound synthesis. filmachine was developed and premiered at Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM), Japan in 2006.
